ONE BIG THING: SIERRA VISTA HOUSING BREAKS GROUND
What Happened?
We broke ground this week on a new 51-bed interim housing site in East Hollywood, expected to open early next year.
Nearly all the units will be single occupancy, with individual bathrooms for privacy and on-site case management to help residents find jobs, access services, and connect with long-term housing.
Why it Matters
Right now, Los Angeles only has enough interim housing capacity for about one-third of the people living on our streets.
That’s unacceptable, which is why we’ve expanded our interim housing stock by more than 25% since taking office.
This is a citywide issue, but it’s also a community priority.
Before moving forward with the project, we contacted over 1,000 households by knocking doors and sending out mailers last year, and the community support was overwhelming.
81% supportive
3% opposed
16% undecided or seeking more information
This data shows that the fearmongering about homelessness might grab headlines, but it doesn’t reflect the care-driven approach that residents want to see in their communities.
What’s Next?
Construction is underway led by our partners at DignityMoves – and our team has put in countless hours of prep work to clear red tape and push construction forward as soon as possible.
Sierra Vista Housing is currently scheduled to open early next year, led by our trusted service provider Hope the Mission.

- Street Light Ballot
Does fixing streetlights in less than a week instead of almost a year sound good to you?
For the first time since 1996, property owners have the opportunity to update streetlight maintenance fees, which would constitute an average increase of about $50/year for homeowners.
According to the Bureau of Street Lighting, the update would help reduce repair times to less than one week once the current backlog is resolved.
