For this month's screening on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, we will be screening three short films created by students in the Latino Film Institute's Youth Cinema Project - an innovative program that uses filmmaking to engage students, strengthen academic skills, and foster personal growth in otherwise frequently overlooked communities.
Ice Cold PSA - Directed by Zoe Lopez, Fremont Academy
Apocalypse - Directed by Lennette Rodriguez, Woodrow Wilson Elementary School
In Bloom - Directed by Lluvia Corona Villalpando, Schurr High School
The short films will be followed by a special PREVIEW screening of Brownsville Bred, directed by Elaine Del Valle, a still unreleased feature length film about a Puerto Rican Brooklyn girl who grows resilient as she navigates the decline of the salsa musician father she once idolized, and the notorious neighborhood she calls home.
The screening will be preceded by a reception with food and resources in the beautiful Pine Grove of Barnsdall Art Park, and will be presented as a celebration of Latino Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 to October 15.
