Homelessness Intern

The Office of Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez is seeking a temporary intern with a passion for addressing homelessness for Council District 13. This is a full-time temporary position supporting the CD13 Homelessness Team, with an anticipated duration of 4 months beginning in November 2026. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative problem solver with an interest in local government and direct-service work, and the ability to learn quickly in a fast-moving field environment.

The ideal candidate would have:

  • Professional, volunteer, or academic experience working with or on behalf of people experiencing homelessness
  • Compassion, commitment to, and enthusiasm for addressing the concerns and needs of CD13 residents, including both unhoused and housed residents
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort with data entry and record-keeping
  • Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred
  • Training or coursework related to trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, de-escalation, or harm reduction a plus
  • Knowledge of CES and SPA 4-based resources a plus

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Work under the direction of the Homelessness Team Staff to support the daily operations of the Hollywood Hub, CD13's low-barrier services center, in coordination with the site operator and service providers
  • Assist with service data collection, tracking, and reporting for various district homelessness programs
  • Support deployment to non-emergency, urgent homelessness-related issues and concerns throughout the district
  • Provide on-the-ground support during field operations, including outreach assistance and constituent communication
  • Provide direct service support to unhoused constituents including, but not limited to, resource referrals, item storage coordination, and other duties as assigned
  • Work with appropriate CD13 Field Deputies and Homelessness Team staff to respond to email, phone, and other homelessness-related constituent communications and conduct site visits as needed
  • Maintain accurate service and deployment records
  • Help with email responses to constituents, and related Government partners. 

The position is full-time, temporary, and exempt from Civil Service. Compensation is $25 per hour, negotiable based on experience.
