BY THE NUMBERS: ICE IN LA
Here are some of the most recent stats about ICE activity in LA:
1,618 people arrested for deportation from June 6-June 22, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) – about 95 per day.
69% of people arrested have no criminal convictions.
3,000 arrests per day is allegedly the goal of white nationalist Trump advisor Stephen Miller.
An estimated 800,000+ undocumented people live in Los Angeles County.
Trump’s national approval rating on immigration is -16%, compared to +1% when he took office.
3 pieces of legislation we’re supporting in City Council to fight back:
🧑⚖️ Legal Action: Directs the City Attorney to explore immediate legal action against the federal government to defend due process and civil rights.
🚫 Close Sanctuary City Loopholes: Investigates how LAPD may be is supporting with ICE and introduces new policy to close gaps in our Sanctuary City protections.
🕵️♂️ Unmask the Feds: Supports state legislation banning federal law enforcement from wearing face coverings during operations in California.
Why it Matters
For much of LA, it might feel like nothing’s happening. But in many communities, the fear and devastation is constant and overwhelming. Families are afraid to go to the grocery store. People are missing work. Businesses are shutting down because their workers—or their customers—are in hiding.
At the same time, Trump’s fascist agenda is flailing publicly. His approval rating on immigration dropped 17 points in six months because people are seeing families being torn apart, workers dragged away indiscriminately by masked men, and even citizens being detained with no due process – and it’s breaking through.
Stay Active
Here are a few upcoming actions to stay involved:
Daily – Summer of Resistance (30 activations in 30 days at Placita Olvera to push back against Trump’s deportations)
Tuesday, July 1 – Reclaim Our Streets (Join in on reclaiming the lives that ICE has stolen, from East LA to Southeast LA)
Wednesday, July 2 – Prayer Unity Walk (Join our city in solidarity of family unity at Placita Olvera, bringing flowers is encouraged)

- LAPD Protest Response
Last week, we introduced a motion with Councilmember Hernandez responding to disturbing instances during recent protests where LAPD appeared to blatantly violate state law on the use of so-called “less lethal” weapons like rubber bullets and tear gas.
The motion looks to strictly enforce and build on existing state law—banning the use of these weapons against crowds and allowing them only in rare, life-threatening situations against individuals. The proposal includes strict oversight, public reporting, and a requirement that supporting law enforcement like CHP and LASD follow these same rules in the city.
- Hollywood’s FIRST Pubic Bathroom
It’s outrageous that even today, the #1 most famous tourist destination in the world has no place for you to go #2.
That’s changing. We're partnering with the Hollywood Partnership to open Hollywood’s first public restrooms near Hollywood & Vine. The new facility will be:
✅ Fully staffed
✅ Frequently cleaned
✅ Part of a new visitors’ center to help folks get around
Stay tuned for the inaugural flush — we have to have the visitor's center open within 1 year!
