What Happened?
On Thursday, our team was on the ground across the district documenting the first confirmed reports of ICE operations in CD13, including
- Home Depot in Hollywood, where an estimated 20 people were taken, including one US Citizen
- Costco in Atwater Village
- Attempting to set up operations near Dodger Stadium
Why it Matters
These operations make it clear that ICE continues to racially profile Angelenos based on what they look like and where they work. On Thursday, a CD13 constituent and U.S. citizen was taken into custody at the Federal detention center – simply for being at Home Depot when the raid happened. Families of others who were detained still don’t know where their loved ones were taken. Among the roughly 20 people we know of that were taken and detained, the majority were day laborers, street vendors, and people just trying to make a living.
Fortunately, we did not hear reports of anyone taken from the Costco in Atwater, but we know that federal agents were seen there patrolling the parking lot.

What’s Next
As horrifying as it is to witness these raids in our own neighborhoods, we’re also seeing evidence that our resistance is working.
Agents are showing up and leaving quickly — because they know the community is watching, mobilizing, and documenting every time they come to separate more families.
At the same time, we’ve heard from dozens of organizations and businesses that stood their ground and denied ICE entry — because they understood their rights and demanded a warrant signed by a judge.
That knowledge is saving lives every day, so click here to learn how to tell the difference between a “judicial” and “administrative” warrant.
Two More Quick Hits
- Save the Showers!
A critical program providing showers to unhoused residents in Echo Park, Hollywood, and across the city is facing uncertainty.
These Mobile Hygiene Units are often the only point of contact many residents have with City services, housing referrals, and basic care.
Although the Mayor included funding in her proposed budget, it was removed during Budget Committee hearings without any discussion. Fundraising efforts by SELAH have been able to keep one of these showers alive in Echo Park, but we need to be prioritizing these essential services across the City.
We introduced a motion asking City staff to identify the $2.7 million needed to continue operations, but funding needs to be allocated by July 1 to ensure that no services are disrupted.
