ONE BIG THING: KEEPING IT CLEAN IN DISTRICT 13
What Happened?
This week, City Council approved our motion to allocate over $600,000 to partner with the LA Conservation Corps on supplemental cleanup and community beautification in District 13.
Why it Matters
Bulky items, overgrown weeds, and graffiti persist as issues in our public spaces because of decades of underinvestment in critical services like public trash cans and our sanitation system. Although we’re making these issues a priority, it’s going to take years to reverse.
Meanwhile, this funding helps us take immediate action: expanding cleanups, graffiti abatement, and brush clearance in fire-prone areas.
Partnering with LA Conservation Corps is also a win-win – providing paid, hands-on job training to at-risk youth while empowering them to improve the same communities they call home.
What’s Next?
We’re out in the field directing cleaning crews and keeping the district clean, but we need your help reporting items we might’ve missed like:
- Trash or bulky item dumping
- Graffiti
- Hazardous weeds or brush overgrowth
- Fallen palm fronds
- Clogged storm drains
📲To report these, use the 311 app or website to make a 311 request, and then send us your request number with this form so we can expedite your request!

Two More Quick Hits
- 🚶🏽🚲🚙A Safer Fountain Ave
Fountain Ave has long been one of LA’s most dangerous corridors – especially for pedestrians and cyclists. Just last month, 26-year-old Blake Ackerman tragically lost his life on Fountain Ave in West Hollywood in the latest example of fatal and preventable traffic violence.
On August 19, the City of West Hollywood is hosting a community meeting to discuss safety upgrades to Fountain Ave. We’ll be working closely with the City of West Hollywood to establish a network of safe, connected streets through Hollywood so people can get around safely.
- 🛒Banning Digital-Only Coupons
Not everyone has a smartphone or internet access – but everyone deserves access to the same prices.
That’s why we seconded a motion from Councilmembers Heather Hutt and Curren Price to require stores to offer in-store, paper, or automatic discounts so seniors, low-income shoppers, and people who just don’t want to download another app aren’t left paying more.
