MONDAY FIRE UPDATE: MORE EXTREME WIND FORECASTED
Dear Neighbor,
As you’re likely aware, our region remains under severe threat, with wind gusts expected to reach up to 70 mph tonight and tomorrow.
If you haven’t already, download the Watch Duty app for updates and to track the fires. For a straightforward, comprehensive guide to resources, including how to help, visit CD13.LACity.gov/fire-resources.
This past week has brought devastation unlike anything our city has ever experienced. Speaking with neighbors, friends, and community members — every one of us knows people who lost everything.
Yet, amidst the pain and destruction, our community is showing incredible strength and solidarity. From donating to help families recover, to reporting price-gouging landlords, to supporting our first responders—people are stepping up in countless ways.
The community power on display right now makes me hopeful for the future of this city. But before we can focus on recovery, we must remain vigilant in the face of the immediate danger. Please stay safe, stay informed, and take precautions to protect yourselves and your loved ones.
In Solidarity,
Hugo Soto-Martinez
FORECAST
The National Weather Service’s Severe Weather Alert is below, and you can find updates at weather.gov/lox.
Although the LA Basin, including District 13, doesn't fall under the most extreme classification for risk – we’re still experiencing extremely hazardous conditions, and we encourage everyone to take as many precautions as possible to prepare for potential wildfires. Put your go-bag by the front door, and plan multiple evacuation routes in your neighborhood in the event of a fire.
TWO WAYS YOU CAN HELP
1. Donate to local organizations working on the ground to help victims of the fires. Right now, donating money is the most effective way to support relief efforts. Here are some resources for monetary donations, if you are in a position to help:
- Donate to The California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund.
- Support Immigrant Workers Impacted by the Los Angeles Fires.
- Donate to the LA Fire Department’s Foundation
- Support incarcerated firefighters risking their lives to keep us safe.
- Review this list from LA2050 of more organizations seeking financial assistance.
2. Volunteer at an organization looking for support. Use the fireaid.info map to find organizations actively searching for volunteers.
