ONE BIG THING: EVICTION PROTECTION FOR WORKERS AFFECTED BY FIRES
What Happened?
We’re disappointed that our motion to give eviction protections to renters who lost income because of the fires was delayed this week, and sent back to committee. That means thousands of families who are already struggling after losing work are still at risk of losing their homes.
Why it Matters
Natural disasters don’t discriminate, but our recovery policies too often do. By failing to act, we’re preventing thousands of lower income workers from having the opportunity to get back on their feet and recover.
What’s Next?
The motion will now go to the Housing and Homelessness Committee, where it will be considered on Wednesday. If approved by the committee, it will return to the City Council once again for a full vote.
