Why it Matters

This year’s funding plan includes more money than the previous two years, combined.

In a year when our city faced a historic budget crisis, this NEW ongoing funding — approved by the people, for the people in 2022 — is letting us expand programs and build a strong foundation for the years ahead.

What’s Next?

the city faces financial challenges (like right now), we’ll still have a growing and sustainable stream of funding to support renters and working Angelenos.

Three More Quick Hits

  1. Trump’s impact on LA’s LGBTQ+ Communities

The Trump administration is attacking the LGBTQIA+ community at every opportunity, jeopardizing:

  • Access to healthcare for trans people
  • STD testing and treatment
  • Housing and shelter access for LGBTQIA+ youth

Last week, we introduced a motion with Councilmember Ysabel Jurado asking for departments to report on the impact of these federal policies targeting queer Angelenos and how the city can provide support.

The motion was referred to the Civil Rights & Immigration Committee, where it will be heard before coming to the full City Council for a vote.

  1. ICE out of our Schools

Schools were once deemed “sensitive locations” and protected against ICE under previous Democratic and Republican administrations. But now, Donald Trump is targeting these safe spaces.

To counter, we seconded a resolution from Councilmember Hernandez urging the state government to pass SB 48, the Safe Access to Schools Act, which would explicitly prohibit immigration authorities from accessing non-public school areas in California.

The resolution will now be referred to the Rules Committee, where it will be heard before coming to the full City Council for a final vote.

  1. 64 New Apartments for Formerly Unhoused Individuals & Families

We joined the Grand Opening of the Alvarado & Temple Apartments – 64 new units with supportive services for formerly unhoused individuals and families.

Projects like this are why LA has reached a record number of permanent housing placements, and we want to thank Brilliant Corners, the County, and everyone who helped deliver this project.
