ONE BIG THING: YOUR BALLOT IS HERE!

Ballots have arrived! Like every election, LA voters will be asked to weigh in many complex ballot initiatives at the city, county, and state levels.

Here are some of the most important issues where you can make your voice heard:

LA City Charter Amendment DD would establish independent redistricting for the first time in LA City history.

LA County Measure A in County would extend funding for homelessness services and to make housing more affordable.

State Propositions 2 and 4 request bonds for climate change action and education.

State Proposition 3 would enshrine the right for same-sex couples to marry into the state constitution.

State Proposition 32 would raise the minimum wage statewide to $18/hour by 2025

State Proposition 33 would allow cities to pass rent control policies.

Two More Quick Hits!

1. Living Wage Ordinance Passed by Committee

This week, we took an essential step toward securing living wages for thousands of workers in LA when the Economic, Community Development, and jobs committee – which we Vice-Chair – voted to advance the updated Living Wage Ordinance.

This means that the $30/hr minimum wage for hotel & airport workers by 2028, along with health care guarantees, will move to the full City Council for a vote in the next few weeks.

2. Celebrating CD 13’s Own James Beard Award-Winning Chef

In honor of Filipino American History Month this October, we were thrilled to host a celebration at City Hall featuring the 2024 James Beard Award Winner for Best Chef in California, Chef Lord Maynard Llera of District 13’s renowned Kuya Lord.

Chef Lord’s incredible dishes bring Filipino flavors to new heights while staying affordable and accessible. It was a privilege to recognize his achievements alongside Filipino city employees and community leaders.
