One Big Thing: Spring Is In the Air
What Happened?
With the City Council in recess this week, we were busy at work across the district, preparing to usher in the Spring season, enjoy the warm(er) weather, and spend some quality time outside!
Our incredible parks and recreation centers across the district have been hosting Spring festivals the whole family can enjoy, and we have been making it a point to attend and connect with our communities where they are.
Last week, we hung out with families at Lake Street Community Center, Elysian Valley Recreation Center and Yucca Community Center, and this weekend, we’ll be at the Echo Park Recreation Center, Lemon Grove Recreation Center, Chevy Chase Recreation Center, and Silver Lake Recreation Center.
Why It Matters
Our parks and recreation centers are important community spaces, where families gather on the weekends, neighborhood groups meet to strategize, and kids can spend some needed time outside, in a safe and supportive environment.
These are not just green spaces - our parks offer year-round programming for children and families at affordable rates, like classes, sports, and after school programs, which help children grow up into well rounded adults. They also host community events, like this weekend's Spring fests, where people can find important resources, and connect with their neighbors in an organic way.
What’s Next
Activating these parks and green spaces has been a priority of our office since day one, and we are committed to making sure our outdoor spaces stay clean, safe, and welcoming to everyone. That’s why we have been working with the community to activate pocket parks in the district, build new playgrounds, and beautify our outdoor spaces.
We are also hosting events in these parks, and are excited to welcome people from all over the City to enjoy the parks we have, and all they have to offer.
Right now, we are continuing to host our monthly film screening series, Lens On Life, at the Barnsdall Art Park, and are planning to host thousands of Angelenos at Echo Park this summer for the World Cup, where we will be hosting official watch parties throughout the tournament.
Keep an eye out here for more updates, and follow us on @cd13losangeles so you never miss another event!
